Winter Newsletter & Program Guide

Newsletter.jpg
This past fall was one of the busiest in the library's history. Not only did we see an increase in circulation, but also in computer usage and program attendance. More of our friends and neighbors were coming in the door than ever before. In part this was due to the weather, and the damage it did to our local infrastructure. We had several first-time patrons, as well as some returning patrons, who were surprised and relieved about the services we provided during the power outage.

It has been an extremely busy summer for the Pawling Library. We could not have done it without the help of contributors and volunteers. Several young men and women volunteered their time to assist in making numerous changes to the library and its collection.  They took what should have taken 6 months and finished it in 2. I have been involved in similar projects, some using professional companies, and I have to say that our volunteers did one of the best jobs I have ever seen.

Report to the Community

We are excited to announce our first Annual Report to the Community has been released. You can find it in your copy of Pawling Matters or download it here. Please take the time to look at the wonderful things happening at your library.

Every home needs a library. A nice shelf of non-fiction is important in emergencies; the dog eared plumbing basics book on my home shelf has saved me time and money. A home library is also the best cure for boredom. I have spent some sleepless night doing unplanned research on various topics instead of counting sheep. Most importantly a home library promotes reading and piques curiosity in both children and adults. It also just looks nice as a part of any home décor.

If your book shelves are looking bare you might want to travel down to Lakeside Park on May 21st and 22nd. The Pawling Library Foundation is putting on its annual book sale. Proceeds will help with programming, collection development and additional library projects. You can build your home library in a day, and purchase a snazzy book bag, while helping the community.

The Foundation is still recruiting for volunteers to help set up. If you are interested please contact Deborah Keesler at 845-205-2773 or Booksale@pawlinglibraryfoundation.org
