PFL Team News 2012 - Vol. 7

Young reporters learn the art of journalism at library

     A group of youngsters are honing their journalistic skills at the Pawling Free Library this summer. Patrons will notice them moving about the various programs, armed with pencils, notepads and cameras, as they cover a variety of events taking place each week.
     In this programs, these youngsters are learning the basic tenets of journalism as well as how to interview people, take their notes and turn them into a news story to be shared with the library community. They are an enthusiastic and talented group of young people who are fun to work with.
     On their first day of work, they interviewed each other and wrote a small, introductory piece on the person they interviewed. Now patrons can know a little something about the reporters covering their events and interviewing them!

Meet Matthew
By: Cate

     Fifth grader Matthew is eleven years old and a first-time news reporter. He says, "I don't like being here at all." He is more of a comedian than a reporter.
     He likes to play football is his free time. Football is his favorite thing to do in his free time, but so is drawing comics! He'd like to visit Hawaii, but he never has. He says Gaudino's pizza is better than anyone else's pizza. My Weird School Days is the best, most hilarious book he has read! Matthew is one interesting kid!

Meet Nicholas
By: Gianna

     Sixth grader Nicholas wants to have lots of fun while doing PFL News. He is ten years old and loves the Super Diaper Babies series.
     Nicholas enjoys playing video games and loves the two seasons of summer and winter. His two favorite sports are basketball and baseball.

Meet Robby
By: Annie

     Robby is the most experienced person in PFL News. In middle school he has done the morning announcements. In elementary school he did the school newspaper. He was the editor for that paper.
     Robby likes to write, play on the computer and do karate during his free time. Robby's favorite sport is karate. His favorite holiday is Christmas. He has one brother named Nicholas.
     His favorite book is the series about Harry Potter. Robby does not have a favorite movie. His favorite color is blue. Robby's favorite place to go is the Westchester Country Club. His favorite food is tacos. Robby has an interesting NFL life.

Meet Tyler
By: Abigail

     One of our newest reporters is Tyler. He is not the most enthusiastic writer. He is here because his mother "forced" him to come.
     I think one of the most interesting things about Tyler is he has two bunnies named Sprinkles and Charlie. He wants to have a Halloween party.
     Tyler's favorite book is Super Baby Number 2. I think Tyler could play video games for a whole day, but his mother doesn't let him. Tyler is in fifth grade.

Meet Gianna
By Nicholas
 
     Gianna is a reporter for PFL News because she likes to interview people. In her free time she likes to draw. She also likes to sing and her favorite song is "Boyfriend" by Justin Beiber.
     She also has a two-year-old sister that she likes to play with. Her favorite book is The Hunger Games. Gianna is eleven years old. She has two parakeets and a turtle. He favorite color is purple.
     You'll be seeing Gianna in the library soon.

Meet Catherine
By: Matthew

     Catherine likes to watch ICarly. Her favorite place to go is the Book Cove. Catherine's favorite color is purple. She has a twin sister who is in PFL News as well. Sometimes Catherine and her twin will work together and sometimes they won't. Her favorite sport is basketball.
     Catherine does not like pie. Catherine likes to eat pasta. She is in the fourth grade. Catherine could be an interesting kid.

Meet Abigail
By: Tyler

     One of our new reporters is Abigail. She likes to go to Florida to Disneyland on vacation. She likes to watch a movie called Harry Potter 4. Her favorite artist is Selena Gomez. Her favorite pool game is diving for toys.
     Lightening Thief is her favorite book. Off the Railing is her favorite video game. Abigail will be in the Pawling Library soon.

Meet Annie
By: Robby

     Annie joined PFL News because she likes writing and has interviewed her friends before. When asked, Annie likes to write pieces of fiction. During her free time Annie likes to read and draw. She prefers to draw. Her favorite book is The Emerald Atlas. 
     However, Annie does not recall ever writing news. Her favorite subject is ELA. Annie will most likely be a great reporter!

Meet Danielle

     The very newest member of the PFL news team is Danielle. She is ten and a half years old. One of her favorite things to do is play with her friends. She enjoys reading, which could be why she joined the PFL news team.
     Danielle's favorite color is pink and her favorite movie is "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked!" Hopefully you will see Danielle around soon interviewing for Pawling Library's own newspaper.
