many of you chose to use our new on-line E-log. Your e-log kept track of all of the great books you read, the number of pages you

more lost certificates! Well, we've got good news for you! This year we are once again offering summer reading e-logs. Here is everything you need to know about our summer reading e-logs.
What is an e-log?
How does the e-log work?

An e-log is an electronic book record that is stored on the computer. You can log into your record to enter the titles of the books you are reading and keep track of your reading progress and the number of library certificates you have earned
Do I have to use an e-log?
No, a paper log is available upon request. Please see Ms. Karen if you would prefer to use a paper log. The total number of certificates earned is calculated by hand at the end of the summer. However, all paper logs must be kept in the library! Remember if you remove your log from the library and it is lost or you forget to enter titles on your paper log, library certificates cannot be issued. Why do I need to keep reading over the summer?
Studies have shown that continued reading practice over the summer
months keeps your reading skills strong and helps you maintain your
reading level during the long summer months. When students practice
reading over the summer, it helps to avoid the frustration of the "summer slide." How does the e-log work?
Our Summer Reading Program is designed to encourage reading and writing during the long summer months. As you enter the titles of books you are reading, the log stores the titles and reviews. It also keeps a running tally of the number of books read and calculates the number of library certificates you have earned. Library certificates will be saved in your E-log like a bank account. Every time a title is added, your account will grow and you can watch your summer reading goal bar fill as you read more and more books. What can I do with my library certificates?
Most of you will want to use your certificates in the Pawling Free Library September Store. Our store will be open from Saturday, September 10th through Friday, September 16th and will be stocked with small toys, books, stuffed friends and more. Children may use up to 20 library certificates in our store. You can also use your library certificates to purchase raffle tickets and books from our Summer Book cart. What is the Summer Book Cart?
Our Summer Book Cart has a collection of paperback and hard
covered books at many levels. There are popular series, picture books,
teen fiction and a few non-fiction titles. You can view the Summer Book
Cart to make purchases with your library certificates by contacting Ms.
Karen and arranging a good time to shop. Usually, Tuesdays, Wednesdays
and Thursdays after 4:00 pm are a good shopping time. Just give Ms.
Karen a call and let her know you are coming. Other times can be
arranged by appointment. What are the raffle prizes?

Although many prizes can be awarded even if you cannot attend our World Celebration, a few select prizes will only be awarded if you are present to win.Can I withdraw the library certificates I earn?
If you are saving for our September store, it is best to leave your certificates accumulating in your E-log account...because remember, your E-log is like a bank account. You make a deposit every time you read. You can also make withdrawals, but a word of caution; once we issue certificates they are like cash withdrawn from your bank. Library certificates cannot be reissued if you lose them. However, there are times you might want to make a withdrawal to spend some of your certificates purchasing books from our Summer Book Cart or raffle tickets.Library certificates can be withdrawn from your E-log account at any time by asking someone at the circulation desk at the library. If you make a withdrawal we'll give you your paper certificates and your E-Log will keep track of your withdrawals, but remember if you lose them they cannot be replaced so keep them in a safe place!
When will the library store be open?
The days and times for our September store are as follows:Saturday, September 10th - 10 am - 12 pm
Sunday, September 11th - 2 - 5 pm
Monday, September 12th - by appointment only
